This is the autobiography of one of the most significant and decorated women of the 20th century.
In an era where the remarkable lives of women often went uncelebrated, Joice NanKivell Loch (1893-1982), stood as a beacon of courage, compassion, and unyielding resolve. Her autobiography, firstly published in 1968, is not merely a recounting of her adventures and accomplishments but a testament to a life dedicated to serving others. By republishing this extraordinary work, roughly edited and delicately annotated, we aim to shed new light on Joice’s unconquerable spirit and the profound impact she had on the world around ... Saint Paisios of Mount Athos (1994) is perhaps the greatest and most revered Elder of the Orthodox Church of our time.
Even though he lived the monastic life in obscurity on the Holy Mountain of Athos in northern Greece, he became a shining light for thousands of faithful who flocked to see him. His life, miracles, and teachings continue to touch the hearts of people throughout the world to this day. This powerful memoir tells the story of a Greek youth who, out of a desire to know the truth empirically, began to experiment in yoga, hypnotism, and various occult techniques. Eventually drawn back to the Faith of his forefathers Orthodox Christianity he visited the ancient monastic republic of Mount Athos in his native Greece, where he was brought to a knowledge of the Truth of Jesus Christ by the saintly Elder Paisios (1924 1994).
Nevertheless, believing he had only found part of the truth on the Holy Mountain, he chose to give the same opportunity to Hindu yogis that he had given to Elder Paisios and other Orthodox monks. Thus, at the age of twenty-five, he embarked on a trip to India, where he undertook his search in the ashrams of three famous gurus, one of whom was worshipped as a god. His experiences in India, along with his subsequent encounters with Elder Paisios on Mount Athos, are recounted in the present book in vivid detail. Popular in Greece since its first publication there in 2001, The Gurus, the Young Man, and Elder Paisios is a page-turning narrative of both outward adventures and inward struggles. What stands out most in this book, however, is the radiant image of Elder Paisios, possessed of divine gifts, laboring in prayer for his fellow man, and overflowing with unconditional love. Through this, one sees the uncreated Source of the elder s love and of the author s spiritual transformation: the true God-man Jesus Christ, Who honors man s personal freedom while drawing him, through love, into everlasting union with Himself.

The Life and Wisdom of Saint Porphyrios
I have run to the fragrance of your myrrh, O Christ God, for I have been wounded by your love; do not part from me, O heavenly Bridegroom
Elder Porphyrios, a Greek monk and priest who died in 1991, stands in the long tradition of charismatic spiritual guides in the Eastern Church which continues from the apostolic age down to figures such as Saint Seraphim of Sarov and Staretz Silouan in modern times. In this book he tells the story of his life and, in simple, deeply reflected and profoundly wise words, he expounds the Christian faith for today. The vibrant personality of Elder Porphyrios at all times shines through his words with great transparency and charm. In his introduction to the Greek edition Bishop Irenaeus of Chania 'The words of blessed Elder Porphyrios are the words of a holy Father, of a man with the gift of clear sight, who was ever retiring, humble, simple and ardent and whose life was a true and authentic witness to Christ, to His truth and to His joy. Through his presence, love, prayer, counsel and guidance he supported an untold number of people in the difficult hours of illness, mourning, pain, loss of faith and death. He is a god-bearing Father of our days, a true priest and teacher who in his ascetic way fell in love with Christ and faithfully served his fellow man.' This book was compiled after Elder Porphyrios's death from an archive of notes and recordings of his reminiscences, conversations and words of guidance, and was first published in Greek in 2003.

The Lives of the Saints for Orthodox Christians: 600 Orthodox Saint's Lives, Including Pre-schism Western Saints, and Recent Saints
This revised third edition has been completely reformatted and updated to follow the Church calendar, presenting the lives of the saints according to their feast days with both Old and New Calendar dates. This structure allows readers to follow the rhythm of the liturgical year directly, making the volume well suited for daily reading, reference, and devotional use.
The Lives of the Saints for Orthodox Christians is a sweeping treasury of holiness across the centuries, presenting over six hundred carefully selected lives of saints, from the Old Testament patriarchs to twentieth-century martyrs and confessors. The collection spans the full breadth of Orthodox Christian history, drawing together saints from every major era of the Church and from across the historic Christian world. Organized according to the Church calendar, the book includes apostles, martyrs, hierarchs, monastics, rulers, and righteous laypeople whose lives shaped Christian faith and culture. Widely venerated figures such as Saint Anthony the Great, Saint Basil the Great, and Saint Gregory the Theologian appear alongside lesser-known pre-schism Western saints, including Saint Bede the Venerable, Saint Patrick of Ireland, and Saint Alfred the Great. The volume also includes modern saints and elders such as Saint Nectarios of Pentapolis, Saint Paisios of Mount Athos, and Saint John Maximovitch of San Francisco. Special attention is given to saints of the English-speaking world and the Orthodox Christian presence in the Americas, as well as to elders and martyrs of Mount Athos and other centers of Orthodox spiritual life. Each life is presented with clarity and reverence, emphasizing faith, repentance, perseverance, and the working of divine grace within concrete historical circumstances. The lives included in this volume have been carefully compiled and cross-checked against trusted Orthodox sources, including The Lives of the Saints by Saint Demetrius of Rostov, The Prologue of Ohrid by Saint Nikolai Velimirovich, and other traditional hagiographical and ecclesiastical texts. This approach ensures fidelity to the Church’s received memory of the saints while presenting their lives with consistency and accessibility for contemporary readers. Revised for coherence and ease of use, this third edition is offered as both a devotional companion and a work of reference. The Lives of the Saints for Orthodox Christians bears witness to the Church’s enduring call to holiness—lived out across all lands, cultures, and centuries—and invites readers to encounter the saints not as distant figures of the past, but as living examples of Orthodox Christian life.
Father Seraphim Rose: His Life and Works
"Hieromonk Damascene presents this Life in words so clear and inviting that the reader eagerly follows, page after page." -- Frederica Mathewes-Green, National Public Radio commentator, author of At the Corner of East and Now and The Illumined Heart
"THIS is the Fr. Seraphim I remember.... A truly exceptional book, worthy of the noble and righteous Fr. Seraphim!" -- Hieromonk Ambrose (formerly Fr. Alexey Young), author of Letters from Father Seraphim "This excellent book is both a challenge and an inspiration to all who are searching for intellectual and spiritual integrity." --Hieromonk Jonah, Abbot of the Monastery of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco, editor of Divine Ascent This epic biography of Hieromonk Seraphim Rose tells the unique story of a man who, having grown up in a typical American home in southern California, became one of the greatest teachers of Orthodox Christianity in our times, loved and revered throughout Russia and Eastern Europe. Quoting at length from his letters, journals, manuscripts, recorded lectures and published writings, this book traces Fr. Seraphims intense search for truth and his philosophical development, setting forth his message and offering a glimpse into the soul of a man who lived, even while on this earth, in the otherworldly Kingdom of God. A greatly revised version of Not of This World, this new Life of Fr. Seraphim incorporates years of new research and includes much additional material. Because it deals closely with events in the recent history of Orthodoxy in America, the book has been reviewed prior to publication by clergy, monastics and laypeople from most of the Orthodox jurisdictions represented in this country. New edition includes: 1.) New, previously unpublished material by Fr. Seraphim. 2.) New reminiscences by those who knew Fr. Seraphim. 3.) 63 new photographs. 4.) Expanded and updated bibliography and source notes. 1160 pages, 234 illustrations, paperback, Smyth-sewn binding for greater durability.
