The most ancient name for Christianity, Metropolitan Kallistos reminds us, is 'the Way' (cf. Acts 19.23;24.22), and it is precisely as the journey that this word implies that he presents the tradition of Orthodox Christianity, its teachings and its practices.
The result is not an abstract presentation of 'Orthodoxy,' an outside look at, or description of, its dogmatics, rituals, and ascetic disciplines, compared to and contrasted with others, but an invitation to enter into the way, to begin the journey—and to do so always, into eternity—into the mystery of God through the living experience of the Orthodox Church. As Metropolitan Kallistos often points out, just as undertaking a journey into an unfamiliar land or climbing a mountain requires an experienced and knowledgeable guide, so also an experienced and trusted spiritual guide, a mystagogue, is needed for the spiritual journey, to ascend Mount Sinai and encounter the mysterious God in its darkness, and to climb Mount Tabor and behold the mystery of the transfigured Lord, and to be initiated into the mysteries of the Jerusalem above, our Mother, the Church. The Orthodox Way is such a guide, a book that takes the reader into the very mystery of God, and now speaks to us, in a new century and a new edition.
Religion of the Apostles: Orthodox Christianity in the First Century
Father Dr. Stephen De Young traces the lineage of Orthodox Christianity back to the faith and witness of the apostles, which was rooted in a first\-century worldview.
The Religion of the Apostles presents the Orthodox Christian Church of today as a continuation of the religious life of the apostles, which in turn was a continuation of the life of the people of God since the beginning of creation.
On Acquisition of the Holy Spirit

The Soul After Death
The Soul After Death is a comprehensive presentation of the 2,000-year-old experience of Orthodox Christianity regarding the existence of the other world, addressing contemporary after-death and out-of-body experiences, the teachings of traditional Oriental religions and those of more recent occult societies.Although the mystery of what lies beyond the veil of death is not fully visible to us in this life, nonetheless, writings and teachings of ancient Christianity dating from the first century have proven timeless and straightforward, yielding sound insights into the spiritual world beyond death. From the firm foundation of Orthodox patristic teaching, Fr. Seraphim Rose offers an interpretation of the meaning of the contemporary experiences which have been publicized by Drs. Kubler-Ross, Moody, Osis and Haraldsson, and other researchers.
Principal teachings of Orthodox Christianity concerning the properties of the soul after death are presented in a clear concise manner, as taught by Church fathers and teachers of the early centuries. The Soul After Death offers an undiluted draught of pristine, mystical Christianity as it has existed since the time of Christ.
The Struggle for Virtue: Asceticism in a Modern Secular Society
“Archbishop Averky was one of the last giants of 20th-century Orthodoxy . . . . [He] was an Orthodox scholar in the unbroken tradition of patristic thought which has come down to us from the ancient Fathers to our own days.” —Hieromonk Seraphim (Rose), author, The Orthodox Word
Archbishop Averky addresses head on the question, “What is asceticism?” He counters the many false understandings that exist and shows that the practice of authentic asceticism is integral to the spiritual life and the path to blessed communion with God.

The readable, deeply authoritative and bestselling book on the Orthodox Church, in a fully updated and revised Third Edition.
'Orthodoxy claims to be universal . . .'
Since its first publication fifty years ago, Timothy Ware's book has become established throughout the English-speaking world as the standard introduction to the Orthodox Church. Orthodoxy continues to be a subject of enormous interest among western Christians, and the author believes that an understanding of its standpoint is necessary before the Roman Catholic and Protestant Churches can be reunited. In this revised and updated edition he explains the Orthodox views on such widely ranging matters as Ecumenical Councils, Sacraments, Free Will, Purgatory, the Papacy and the relation between the different Orthodox Churches. TIMOTHY WARE, His Excellency, was the first British elected Bishop in the UK, after the 11c. Schism. The Most Reverend Metropolitan Kallistos of Diokleia, was Spalding Lecturer of Eastern Orthodox Studies at Oxford University until his retirement in 2001. THE LADDER OF DIVINE ASCENT
A timeless masterpiece of Christian spirituality – the path to inner transformation
The Ladder of Divine Ascent by St. John of the Ladder (John Climacus) stands among the most profound spiritual works of the Christian tradition. For centuries, it has guided monks and laypeople alike along a structured path toward union with God.
In 30 “steps,” the holy author describes the ascent of the soul—from renunciation of worldly attachments to the fullness of divine love and spiritual perfection. Each step is both a challenge and an invitation: a call to purification of the heart and renewal of the inner life. The translation by Archimandrite Lazarus Moore preserves the depth, clarity, and spiritual power of this remarkable work, making it accessible to modern readers while remaining faithful to its original spirit. Why read this book?
Who is this book for?
A spiritual work for our timeThough written in the 7th century, this work speaks with remarkable clarity to the challenges of the modern world. It reveals that the true struggle is not external, but within the human heart. This edition is among the most widely chosen and circulated versions of this spiritual work, reflecting the care, dedication, and seriousness with which it has been prepared and presented. The Ladder of Divine Ascent is not an easy book—but it is one that can transform a life.
Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future
The psychic phenomena of today are symptoms of the emergence of a new spirituality that is molding the world religion of the future―phenomena such as Yoga, Zen, Tantra, Transcendental Meditation, Guru Maharaj-ji, Hare Krishna, UFO’s, the Charismatic Movement, and Jonestown.
“None of these by itself … has a crucial significance in the spiritual makeup of contemporary man; but each one in its own way typifies the striving of men today to find a new spiritual path, distinct from the Christianity of yesterday, and the sum of them together reveals a frightening unity of purpose whose final end seems just now to be looming above the horizon.” –Fr. Seraphim Rose This work is a concise and unequivocal Orthodox statement on contemporary trends; its urgent message rings loud and clear. Viewed from the foundation of patristic teaching, many of the spiritual movements of today are seen to be spiritual deceptions which have existed since the beginning of the Church―and not achievements of a “new religious consciousness.” Addressing soberly and directly the trends of pseudo-spirituality which appear enticing today, ORTHODOXY AND THE RELIGION OF THE FUTURE provides a beacon of discernment in these times of widespread deception. ORTHODOXY AND THE RELIGION OF THE FUTURE examines a broad spectrum of issues facing modern Christians―each from the perspective of the early Church Fathers. As the “New Age” is becoming a household concept and is moving into wider acceptance by mainstream society, the “new religious consciousness” can be seen progressing precisely along the lines described by the late Fr. Seraphim. Included in this edition is an epilogue that chronicles the signs of the religion of the future that have made their appearance since this book was first published.
